Broadway Season Lineup Announced!

Phantom Of the OperaSome exciting news has come our way! The Broadway season line up for the new Dr Phillips Performing Arts Center have been announced! Here is the schedule:

The Phantom of the Opera: Dec. 3 to Dec 14, 2014

The Book of Mormon: Dec. 26, 2014 to Jan. 4, 2015

Newsies: Jan. 27 to Feb 1, 2015

Motown the Musical: March 10 to March 15, 2015

Pippin: April 21 to April 26, 2015

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: May 12- May 17, 2015

Anything Goes: May 26 to May 31, 2015

I Love Lucy Live on Stage: June 23 to June 28, 2015

I don’t know which one I should see first!

I’m most excited to see the Phantom of the Opera because of its awesome soundtrack. One that would be fun for the whole family is Beauty and the Beast (of course) because the kids will love it as much as the adults. (And you won’t have to go through a hassle of finding a babysitter that night)

I’ve heard lots of positive buzz around the Book of Mormon. It is a story of two boys from Salt Lake City that embark on a Mormon mission to Uganda. Reviews say that it manages to keep your utmost attention the whole way through!

This Broadway lineup just adds to the list of awesome things to do in Orlando. I’m sure these shows will bring in even more tourists (if that’s even possible). However, I think they will be most beneficial for locals since we have the opportunity to enjoy all of them! For more information about the upcoming Broadway season click here.

Top Ten Best Renovated Kitchens!

I stumbled upon this awesome video from HGTV of the top 10 best-renovated kitchens. Wow, some of these look amazing! My personal favorite is number 3. I love the grays and browns along with the stainless steal appliances.

This goes to show that no matter how awful a kitchen might seem at first, there is always a way to make it your dream kitchen! One simple change that can go a long way is just changing the wall color! Another theme to create your perfect kitchen is demolishing a wall to give it a more open feel. This makes the kitchen appear a lot bigger, and makes it easier to cook in.

Moral of the story is that you shouldn’t turn down a house just because you are not a fan of the kitchen. Don’t forget that these things can be changed! Also, you might be able to score a cheaper house due to the dated kitchen and you can use that extra money you saved to create your dream kitchen! This not only applies to the kitchen, but to other rooms in the house. All you have to do is use a little creativity and you can get the home that you LOVE. For tips on renovations, I suggest looking at the HGTV renovations website.

Downtown Food & Wine Festival

TGIF! If you are looking to do something fun this weekend, I have just the right thing for you- the Downtown Food & Wine Festival. It is happening on both Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 22 &23) at Lake Eola. There will be tons of food and wine along with some live music.

If you would like to see the food menus for all of the vendors click here or the wine list click here. For those of you who don’t like wine, there will also be beer and various other drinks.

If you would like to order tickets in advance you must do so by 11:59pm tonight! For general ticket options and prices click here. They are offering ultimate feast experience tickets online only for $100. It includes admission, $40 in food and beverage ticket, entrance into a private stage side pavilion, private wine/beer bar with premium wines, and a commemorative festival wine glass. If you want to get the most out of your weekend I suggest getting this!

This would be an excellent place to enjoy the weekend with your husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend. They suggest that you bring your own blankets to sit on. However, I would recommend leaving the kids and pets at home, while this event is geared more for adults.

I suggest purchasing tickets tonight to save money! Enjoy your weekend!

Orlando’s Most Anticipated Venues

I stumbled upon the 2014 10 Most Anticipated Orlando Venues list and I thought I would share! After reading it, I’m very excited to try out all the new things Orlando will have to offer this year. Topping the list is the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, which I wrote a previous blog on if you want to check it out.

A Four Seasons Resort will be opening in Disney. If you want to pamper yourself after a long day on their Fazio-designed golf course you can enjoy time at their spa. To end the night you can then dine at their rooftop restaurant. Sounds like an amazing day to me!

South Beach’s Mango’s Tropical Café will be opening on I-Drive. This restaurant is known for its live music as well as its choreographed dance show. It will add even more nightlife to downtown Orlando!

I-Drive will also be getting a new restaurant, Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant. Something that makes this place unique is the Napa-style wine tasting room! This place would be great to host a birthday at.

Another exciting one on the list is the Indoor Kart Racing that will be on I-Drive. Along with high performance go-karts, the complex will have bowling, arcade games and a restaurant.

Looks like we all have a lot to look forward to in Orlando this upcoming year! Which one are you most excited for?!

Ready, Set, Run!

On April 12th the “5K Run Among the Lakes” will be held in Windermere! Unlike most courses, this one is on hard packed sand/clay roads. While running beside the lake, you can enjoy views of the beautiful ancient oak trees. The race will begin near Town Hall on Main Street.

Awards will be given to the top three overall finishers, top masters finisher, and the top three winners in each 10 year age division.

This is a family friendly event, and you are welcome to bring your kids! There will be separate run for them to complete. All of them will receive ribbons upon completion of the race and the first 100 kids to sign up will receive a FREE t-shirt.

Also, a complimentary breakfast will be served for all to enjoy. If you register before April 7th it will only cost $25.

Get your running shoes on and enjoy this fun-filled day in the Florida sun (which I’m starting to miss due to all of this rain!).

Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley- COMING SOON!

For all of you Harry Potter fans, Universal Studios has finally released some more information regarding the expansion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter- Diagon Alley. To enter the new Diagon Alley you will have to go through a red tile subway station entrance. Expect to be wowed by the amount of shops where you can buy Hogwarts school uniforms and Lord Voldemort’s death eater masks. If you are hungry you can snack on some strawberry-and-peanut-butter ice cream. Yum! Also, they revealed the name of the newest ride-Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.

One of the big debates has been about the size of the shops. Universal has made them small so they remain as authentic as possible. However, some feel that they should be made bigger because of the large crowds. Universal has decided that they will be sticking to the small store theme. This way you can actually feel like you are in England!

Diason Alley will open its doors sometime this summer. I can’t wait! This is a great place to bring kids of all ages for some family fun. If you haven’t had, don’t miss out on the delicious Butterbeer!

For more information on the opening, check out this article.

We Want Trader Joe’s!

Trader Joe’s wants to open up a store in our very own Dr Phillips by the third quarter of this year! However, as we all know, opening a store isn’t a piece of cake and they still have a few hurdles lying ahead of them. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Trader Joe’s, it is a privately held chain of specialty grocery stores (similar to Whole Foods).

If you are interested in attending, there will be two public meetings regarding the opening of this Trader Joe’s. The first will be held at 6:00pm on January 21st at Dr Phillips Elementary School. The second will be at 2:00pm on January 28th at the Orange County Administration Building.

This Trader Joe’s opening will be excellent for our community! It will generate 100+ temporary construction jobs as well as many permanent jobs. Not to mention that it will include a Unicorp- created chef-driven restaurant (YUM!). Another positive is that it could push more large retailers to enter the region. More shopping options sounds great to me!

Maybe the added competition will even drive the prices of Whole Foods down! What do you guys think?!

To support the Dr Phillips opening, Unicorp is seeking 1,000 signatures on their online petition.
